Megan's Meadow

The Megan’s Meadow project will be located in the city of Pacific, WA. Plans are to construct nine single family homes, which will be LEED certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). The homes will have three to five bedrooms. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-2010.

Renton

The Renton project is a building partnership between the Seattle/South King County and the East King County Habitat affiliates. The Building Together LLC was formed in order to purchase and develop this property. As a large development on the border between the two affiliate service areas, it is a natural partnership that will benefit both the affiliates and a large number of families who will be able to experience affordable homeownership because of this alliance. When completed the Habitat neighborhood will be home to a total of 41 low-income families.

“I am very impressed with the quality of work and the professional level of craftsmanship you provide. I think we should consider doing a case study of your homes, their performance, the details and the methods you have developed to create exceptional homes. The product you are creating is representative of the best housing in the country. People need to see that and begin to replicate it. You should be very proud.”

- Mark LaLiberte, teacher, lecturer and consultant to the green building industry.

High Point Phase 2A & 2B (map)

High Point in West Seattle is currently being built from the ground up to create an urban, pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use, and mixed-income community which will provide 1,600 units of housing (market-rate, for-sale, rental and senior) at affordable and market rate costs. Habitat for Humanity will build 20 homes in this development for low and very low-income households.

After the successful completion of High Point Phase 1 (which included eight homes - two duplexes, a tri-plex and carriage house), Habitat for Humanity of Seattle/South King County is currently developing Phase 2 which will have two parts, A and B. Phase 2A was completed in late 2009 and has two multi-level duplexes. Each of the duplexes contains a 4- and a 5-bedroom home. Phase 2B will have three duplexes and two single family homes. One of the single family homes contains 3 bedrooms, the other will have 5 bedrooms. Two of the three duplexes in Phase 2B will each have 3 bedrooms. The third duplex has 2 4-bedroom units. Volunteers and the future homeowners have been working hard to make these homes a reality.

Rainier Vista - Phase 1 (map)

Habitat's Rainier Vista project is located in the Rainier Valley area of Seattle, between Interstate 5 and Lake Washington. The Seattle Housing Authority (SHA) neighborhood was developed in the 1940s as a 471-unit rental project. In 1999 SHA completed a comprehensive neighborhood planning process to create the plan to redevelop the worn out rental units into a mixed-use, mixed-income neighborhood of 526 rental units serving low-to moderate-income households and 250-350 new homes and condominiums for sale to a variety of income levels.

The Habitat Rainier Vista project consists of three 4-plex buildings which are being built in three phases – A, B and C. Phase A, completed in January 2010, includes two 4-bedroom units, one 5-bedroom unit and one 6-bedroom unit. Construction on Phase B, the second four-plex, is underway.  Phase C, the final four-plex will begin in late 2010..

The block is designed to accommodate a variety of family sizes with an emphasis on creating a safe, accessible site with front yard gardens and ample rear yards. Once complete, the 12 homes will be made up of six 3-bedroom units (1 of which will be ADA compliant), two 4-bedroom units, two 5-bedroom units and two 6-bedroom units. The buildings are arranged so that every home will have a front porch and garden as well as a fenced back yard. Walkways extend from the back yards to the paved parking area, which accommodates one car for each unit. The Rainier Vista homes will be Energy Star Certified, meet the Evergreen Sustainability standard of 50 or more points, and meet Built Green 3-star standards.

Pacific (map)

21st Century Challenge

In partnership with the Build the Bridge Coalition, our collaborative movement continues to focus on ending substandard housing in the Westway neighborhood of Federal Way. In 2008, we completed two major rehabs and a dozen minor repairs. We continue to develop partnerships and resources to implement positive solutions to address very complex issues. An additional two houses were rehabbed in 2009 as well as a number of minor repairs and a community-wide effort that culminated in the construction of a state-of-the-art 4,200 square foot playground. A final rehab project was completed in early 2010.
